Dermoid Cyst On Ovaries: Know What It Is
77Dermoid cyst on ovaries
There are many kinds of cysts affecting the ovaries. Although they occur at the same area (that is to say, at the female reproductive organ, the ovary), each of the cysts are quite different from each other. There are functional cysts which are relatively harmless, and there is also something known as polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), the more serious type. Then there is also something called a dermoid cyst on ovaries. Each of these cysts are typically present with the same signs and symptoms, but their nature is different from each other, and how they came to be is also a different story. Here, the dermoid cyst on ovaries is the primary focus.
What is it?
A dermoid cyst on ovaries is of the strange kind because it contains all kinds of cells. It begins with one cell that has all the potential to be just about any kind of tissue in the body. These cysts are filled with thick and greasy fluid that may contain hair, bone tissue, eyes, and even teeth.
A dermoid cyst on ovaries is a benign tumor which rarely ever becomes cancerous. Only one to two per cent of the total cases of dermoid cyst on ovaries are found to be cancerous with the bulk of these only in middle aged women. It also occurs fairly often and makes up about fifty per cent of the total cases of ovarian tumors that are benign.
Detection And Complications
As with the others, a dermoid cyst on ovaries is asymptomatic. It can be developed in one or both of the ovaries, and is usually detected during a pelvic exam. It can also be detected through an ultrasound, or sonogram.
It is only when the dermoid cyst on ovaries ruptures or twists in itself that it will cause severe pain; otherwise, the woman would feel that nothing is wrong and would continue on with her current activities like normal. When the pain becomes unbearable, the doctor will then have to remove the dermoid cyst on ovaries. Should the woman choose not to have it removed, the dermoid cyst on ovaries will continue to grow and may result in peritonitis, the inflammation of the abdominal cavity.
It is during the surgery that the doctor can take a sample of the tissue and have it biopsied. Once results arrive, it is then known for sure that it is, in fact, a dermoid cyst on ovaries, and if it is cancerous or not.
It is a myth that when surgery is done to remove the dermoid cyst on ovaries – or any cyst on the ovaries, for that matter - infertility will result. As long as there are normal ovarian tissues left and as long as, hopefully, no scar tissue develops, the woman will still be able to ovulate and get pregnant even after treatment.
The dermoid cyst on ovaries is probably one of the least threatening cysts that a woman can get in her ovaries. By knowing the salient information regarding this sort of growth, you not only pursue the best course of action to address it, you also get peace of mind.

iv been diagnosed w/ dermoid cyst on my left ovary and its already 7cm so i went to surgery and its removal of my left ovary. im only 22yrs old thas why im worried if i cud still bear a kid since ive heard the occurence of this disease since i only have 1 right ovary.
I had a dermoid cyst when I was 19 on my left ovary. It grew to the size of a grapefruit. They had to remove the ovary, and every year, twice a year at the beginning, I had internal sonograms to check my other ovary to make sure it was ok. I am now 35 and I had one miscarriage back in December and I've been trying again since February. I discovered by taking my basal temperature that I had a short Luteal phase that was only 9 days. Doctor gave me Clomid after trying vitamin B6 for a month. Will see what happens.
Removing one ovary does not stop you from being able to have children. You still have a perfectly good one that will compensate--the situation that would prevent you from having a baby is if you remove your uterus (hysterectomy), therefore not giving a baby room to grow. I am having my right ovary, the dermoid cyst that has overtaken it, and my right fallopian tube removed in a month. The Dr. was very specific that I could still get pregnant which is a problem for me because I also have a bicorneal uterus. The top of my uterus dips severely down, creating a "horned" shape to my uterus and restricting the growth of babies. My chances of having a miscarriage or not being able to carry to full term is 70%. As my husband I I don't want to risk it, we have to use birth control--remember, it doesn't take 2 ovaries to get pregnant, just one. So those ladies worried about your chances of having children, you shouldn't. Talk to your Dr, that's what she or he is there for.
Hi I just found out I have a dermoid cyst or hemorrhagic complex cyst. My main concern is the operations; does it hurt or painful is it long? Or is it a day procedure? Also is ther a visible scar? My doctor didnt discuss this stuff properly With me nor have I been to my local hospital appointment yet. I'm still on the waiting list. Email please hopey_1989@hotmail.com. thanks. : )
I discovered i had a dermoid cyst 5 years ago, it was inside my ovary, it was quite large, the doctor said as big as his fist, however i didn't have any symtoms. It was discovered whilst looking into fertility problems. The good news is that whilst waiting for the op i discovered i was pregnant. After id had the baby i had an op to remove my ovary and cyst. Ive been fine ever since.
I have been diagnosed with a 10cm cyst end of October, either an endometrioma or hemmorraghic cyst. I had a laporscopy 16th November, and it wasnt either, and all the surgeon did was drain it, I am concerned he took the risk to drain a complex cyst. I now have to have another scan next week, they reckon it will still be there, and probably another operation. They think its a dermoid. I know there is a small chance these can become cancerous, and because if its size, thats what I am worried about.
When i was 18 i had dermoid cyst on my right ovary, and it had been removed with size of about 7cm by laporoscopy. It didn't cause me any pain but doctors told me it have to be removed.
Last year, at the age of 21, i've been diagnosed with a same cyst on my left ovary, but doctors find out about that much sooner than the first one, it was much smaller and i passed the operation much better, i would say with no pain at all.
A year from my second operation, and 4 years from the first one, both of my ovaries are perfectly fine. :)
So i can tell you all, not to panic just go to a gynecologist at least twice a year and everything could be healed if it is found on time.

As I read all of your comments and concerns, please let me briefly share my experience and help ease some concerns. I had a dermoid cyst at 27 that had completely overtaken my right ovary. There was no option but to have my entire right ovary removed. The surgery was laparoscopic and the recovery time was two weeks. Yes, the pain after the surgery was difficult. This happened a few months before my wedding. So, infertility was a huge concern. Thirteen years later, my left ovary has completely compensated for the absent right ovary. My periods were normal and I now have three children. There were no fertility problems until the third child. I think the issues were more age related bc I was 36 with very low progesterone. Do not fear the removal of one ovary bc the other will compensate. I had an amazing gynecologist that spent a great deal of time discussing concerns and how the female body operates with 1/2 of its reproductive organs. Of all cysts to have, a dermoid, being quite complex, is almost always benign. They are very painful. But, having one ovary is a blessing. Do not listen to myths about periods every other month or hormone replacement. The ovary send signals to the brain despite having one or two. Hope I helped someone. I remember those horrifying times thirteen years ago and look at my children now.... Have no fear.
I had a dermoid cyst removed last march and the ovary removed with it. Does anyone know what the chances are for getting another cyst on the left ovary?
I have a dermoid cyst on my right side of my ovary and i am just wondering about if anyone knows if i could get pregnant within a year after they remove the right ovary ?
I am thankful that I found this site where women share how they went through these tough times in lives. It is pretty encouraging that not only me who is bothered by having this dermoid cyst. It is only 3 days now from my laparoscopy. The operation is not painful because you are completely asleep, though you pain these afterpains when you wake up 30 mins. after. A 5cm dermoid cyst was taken out from the right ovary and a very small one from the left ovary when was not detected before the operation. It is pretty relieving after the removal of the cyst but also stressful to wait for the result of the examination whether it is cancerous or not.
I had a dermoid cyst removed at 38. I'm now 46 and, believe it or not, I have another one. I had an excellent doctor the first time and the surgery was an outpatient procedure with very little pain and a fast recovery. I also had no scarring whatsover as the incisions were in my navel region and very tiny. The cyst was causing pain during intercourse and the surgery stopped the pain. The cyst was detected during a vaginal U/S because I was in pain during my yearly pap test. My doctor assured me that fertility would not be an issue but that a dermoid cyst could return. It did return and on the same ovary. I'll probably have to have surgery to remove the new cyst too but I go in with total confidence and no fear having had successful laporoscopic surgery in the past. So those that are having this surgery for the first time please know that it is not as major as some surgeries and that you should have a quick recovery with minimal pain. Have someone with you though the first day as walking may be a bit much on you and you won't want to lift heavy items.
when i read the comment really i feel that i am not alone .i have the same problem dermoid cyst which is 1.5 cm in right ovary.now doctor said that i have to do opperation so finger cross that after that i get pregnant ............plz if any one can guide me .i am so deprssed now that what wil happen
like alot of you, i had a 10cm dermoid cyst surrounding my right overy and had to have it removed, i had open sergery because they wanted to check the left as well, i was told when i came round that there were some small ones, like blisters on the left and they had chosen to "pop" them rather than remove that overy too ( i had signed concent to remove both in need be as i have my children and dont mind not having any more).
what's worrying me now is that i still have alot of pain that speads across my hip 6 months after having the overy removed and i am getting similar pains on the left side too, with extreamly heavy, clotty painful periods each month.
i dont know if im worrying too much of if i should insist on having it checked out...i did speak to a nurse at the hospital when i was there for something else and she reckoned that the pain i was getting on the right side where i now had no overy was likely to be phantom...should i believe her, continue feeling stupid about bring it up or become a bit more pushy!!
I dont like to keep going back to the doc every five minutes coz it makes me feel like im just complaining.
if anyone knows more about any of my points please let me know
In February of 2010 I started having abdominal pain and what I thought was a bladder infection as I was having bladder pressure and urgency. Went to doctor after doctor. Never diagnosed with a bladder infection. Was given one pill after another - told it was hormonal imbalance - even told by one doctor I needed to drink more water. After 10 months of pain and discomfort it was finally discovered I had a dermoid cyst on my right ovary which was causing my ovary to twist - thus the pressure on my bladder. Had surgery in December and had the right ovary removed as the doctor was unable to safe any of the ovary. I was thrilled - for the first time in 10 months I felt great. Two weeks ago my symptoms returned. I again have pelvic pain, pressure and urgency. At the time of surgery the doctor checked my left ovary and bladder and there was nothing wrong with them. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening? Could another cyst grow that quicly on my left ovary or will having one ovary removed cause the other ovary to twist? I have an appointment with my doctor but not for another 6 days. I can't belive this is happening!
I went to and obgyn about a year a ago and found a dermoid cyst on my left ovary. It was removed in the summer. Not a painful surgery other than they fill your stomache with air. A for a few day after it have the worse pain I have ever felt. Stabbing pains in chest. It does go away and I feel much healthier. Although my question is I was told I would have a hard time concieving because I don't ovulate regularly. My doctor did not further investigate because genetic testing is not covered by my insurance. I am engaged and was not ready to start a family so I didn't persue it at the time. I found out I became pregnant a couple months ago. I am curious is it easier to become pregnant after having a cyst removed? Any answers I would love to know or it is just really odd timing.
I had a 9cm dermoid AND my ovary removed last year, the cyst had started to rupture my ovary.
I started getting pain in my right side last week, had a scan done and now i have another dermoid in my last ovary plus another cyst of some kind. I am being rescanned in a couple of weeks then i have to discuss my options. Really devastated now, im not even 30 yet. :@(
Im only 13 years old and I have a cyst too. the doctor said it was 16cm by 19cm, and Im getting surgery tomorrow. Sadly I will lose one ovary, and hope for the best for my other one. Im very scared :(
I am 27 years old. I had a dermoid ovary cyst in my left ovary and doctor removed my left ovary in nov. 2010 by Laproscopy. The pain was unbearable. My menstural period was regular for only 3 months. But in last month, I lost my Menstural Period date. Is it possible that I am Pregnant? please mail to my querry at garima.soin@gmail.com
I'm 19 and I was just told today actually that I have a Dermoid cyst on my left ovary as well as poly cystic ovaries. ( and a fibroadenoma lump in my left breast as well. ) My doctor has put me on drugs for daibetes, it is supposed to help, but I'm doubting it.
:C Just remain positive girls, you're not alone in any of this so just hold on.

I had one when 2 when I was 15 years old, one was 15cm by 11cm, the other was smaller. I had them both removed and they managed to save both my ovaries.
I am now 23 and worried that they may return as I have been recently getting similar pain to that of when I was younger. Has this happened to anyone else?
I had a dermoid cyst on my right ovary removed after I had my first child. I had 2 more children after the surgery. Now, 16 years later I have been diagnosed with a dermoid cyst on my left ovary.
When I was 27 I was diagnosed with dermoid cysts in both ovaries.
Thankfully I found a great gyno and he monitered them with ultrasound for just over a year. They both continued to grow so I was advised that if my husband and I wanted a child then we should consider having one asap so that on the off chance something happened to both ovaries during surgery then we would have at least one child. (both cysts were over 6cm and were monitered closely during my pregnancy) He also recommended scheduleing a c-section removing both cysts at the same time.
The surgery was a success and they were able to save both my ovaries and deliver our first born at the same time. Since the surgery we have had another child with no problems getting pregnant.
What frustrates me is that my dermoid cysts DID cause pain before they were large enough to twist my ovaries. I have been told many times that I wasn't feeling pain from them (but they couldn't tell me what the pain was from) Listen to your body, you know best!
Now, like you Leanne I am begining to have similar pains as the pains I was having 4 years ago. If this continues I will be off to the gyno to see. Does anyone know how often they can reoccur?
me an my fiance want lots of babys!, i have a dermoid cyst on my right ovary that is 8.1 i am going for surgery in afew weeks. can i have kids?? mail meeee jasminecloey@gmail.com
well I really dont know what kind of cyst I have really I go to the gyno in 3 days This cyst is so painful I have had it for 9 months now I have tryed everything endless nights trying to find cures so I could to get rid of it and its not wanting to go away So I think im gonna have to get surgery I just hope it dont affect me from having a kid again im only 20 and have one three year old son I dont want him to be alone the only child.
hello all i ve been diagnosed 8 days ago and found that i've dermoid cyst on my right ovary. i went to gyno and she insisted me to remove it with laprascopic also she told only my cyst would be removed and not the ovary. Doctor told the surgery date will be fixed after my periods. So I'm waiting for my periods to get over so that i could avoid messing up wid it during surgery. I'm having pain on my abdomen lower back and thigh which is bearable. But my concern is will i get it again ? Wat are the ways to prevent it from recurring and would the scars be visible.... Pls do help me with my doubts. My id is kavitha.yuga@gmail.com
I had a dermoid cyst I'm my left ovary when I was 28 years old. The doctor removed the ovary along with the cyst. Now I have one on my right ovary and I am panicking. My current doctor didn't feel it was necessary for the original dr to remove the entire ovary but what did I know. I'm 34 and just praying this won't be an issue for me getting pregnant.
My 11 year old daughter just was just released from the hospital today. After being diagnosed with a dermoid cycst on her right ovary the surgeon said it would have to be removed. It was large so we knew the entire ovary would have to go. Reading some of your experiences here has me scared for her. She has not even began menses yet.
I was released yesterday from the hospital. I had a dermoid tumor on my left ovary about 4 cm big. Luckily, I found a good doctor that gave me hope of salvaging some of it. I'm 26 years old and got married in march of this year. The doctor was able to save about 30% of my left ovary and about 95% of my right (a cyst was starting to develop). I should be able to still have kids, but I'm worried that the tumor might return in some years. The probability of that occurring is quite high. I'm recovering rapidly and feeling much better. Today I saw blood and called the doctor. She said that it's just that my menstruation has come early due to the surgery. We'll see what happens.
Hi I had a bilateral (both left & right) dermoid cyst on my ovary. Left ovary is around 9-10cm cyst and right ovary is around6-7cm cyst. I got operated last year-June, totally removing my left ovary while I am 3months pregnant and since I am pregnant-on my right ovary they only removed the cyst because it is impossible the child to be alive without my ovary. I gave birth to my son last same year-November. My question is can I still get pregnant since I only have my right ovary now and also I think this has already a scar due to removal of cyst, hoe many percent?. Do you think cyst will possibly grow again?? And do my operation did not affect my child? Please email me at jmay1226@yahoo.com ... I will be waiting.. thanks...
My twins were four years old when they discovered a dermoid cyst on my right ovary. I immediately had it removed through operation. I know that they did not remove the entire ovary, just the part where the dermoid cyst was. That was in July 2008. I was also diagnosed with having Adenomyosis and was being treated right away for it. A year after treatment, I was given something to bring my menstrual cycle back to normal and within three months, we got pregnant. Delivered my baby boy last June 2010. And 7 months after, we are pregnant again! I am due in October! So yes ladies, it is very possible for you to still have babies! God bless!
I had one on my ovaries back in 94 and was in so much pain and had it removed, alone with my left ovary, that was 17 years ago and i now have a 15 year old boy, happy to say, and never had this happen again, so there is hope...
i am so pleased to have found this site as i am at the point of despair. Up until 4 days ago i thought the pain i had been suffering for the last 18 mnths was due to fibroids[ diagnosed by gp and hosp] after finally being referred to gynacologist they sent me for a scan [different place] where i was told fibroid tiny but i have large dermoid cyst on my right ovary! bit shocked but much better than hysterectomy i was expecting, hope only ovary needs to go now.I am struggling to cope with the pain but at least i have a lught at the end of the tunnel.I am 44yrs old and feel suh a nuisance to all around me when i am in pain.
I'm 20 years old I just recently found out I have dermoid cyst and well I have it on my both ovaries and well I'll have surgery soon but I'm concern it is too much pain after surgery since I never had one…
I was living my life as normal until i woke up last week Wednesday with a really sharp pain on the right side of my abdominal the pain was so severe i had to go straight to the a&e. i had a scan done & they found a 9cm dermoid cyst on my right ovary that had twisted which had caused the pain. i was told that they would have to remove the right ovary as the cyst caused damage to it..... I was so scared as im 30 years old in a relationship & want kids in the near future so my 1st thought was after hearing that was that is i wouldnt be able to have children. But the doctors soon reassured me that i can still conceive with just the one ovary. prior to the operation i was using contraception but i have come off it completely now as i dont want this to happen again & end up with a cyst on my left ovary & lose that two.
I had removed my 8cm dermoid cysts last year. Withinn a year, it had returned with 4cmX3.38cm in the same ovary.. What should I do???? Can it be prevented or reduced???
I've had 3 recurring dermoid cysts and have lost my left ovary. The first dermoid, on my left ovary, when I was 20 years old. It torsioned, and I had to have emergency surgery. 4 years later, I got a second one on my left ovary. I was having pain even though it hadn't torsioned. I had surgery, and they removed the left ovary. 4 years after that, I got a dermoid on my right ovary. The doctors were able to save the right ovary, but it was still a big surgery.
Because of my recurring dermoids, I get a pelvic ultrasound every year. I'm 34, and I haven't tried to get pregnant yet, so I don't know what my fertility status is. I do have regular periods, however.
For people who get recurrent dermoids, the key is to monitor your ovaries. There doesn't seem to be any way of preventing them. Surgery sucks, especially if you have to have a laparotomy. But the earlier you can catch a dermoid, the better the prognosis is for keeping your ovary. Recurring dermoids are disrupting to my life, but I take heart in the fact that these cysts are not usually cancerous.
I had a 6.3cm dermoid cyst removed 11 months ago ive been to the dr twice as still in pain feels as though it is still there but they said they had removed it. does anyone else have this my dr said the pain should go after a couple months but its not pain from the surgery its the same as the cyst??
Just been told I have a small Dermoid Cyst on my right Ovary and have an appt with the Gyno for the 1st Dec. My Doctor says they are likely to watch it to see if it goes away on its own and surgery is unlikely but by the sounds of everyones comments that doesn't happen D: Worried now
I had a dermoid cyst when I was 22 years old. I had one child before the cyst and two children after the cyst was removed. You can still have children as long as the ovary is not removed. Even if so, as long as you have one ovary, you can still have children.
just found out i have a dermois cyst on my right ovary had pain since march saw 4 doctors they all told me the pain was just period pain one doctor even told me that i should exercise more as it was a bad back and the hip and side pain was not connected even through they was on the same side. my mum and nan have both had dermoid cysts and had them removed when i asked my doctor if i could have one he smiled and said no, now 8months down the line i finally got a doctor to listen to me and had the scan to comfirm i have one just feel please i was not just not making up the pain. hopefully i will have it removed before it gets to big. wish doctors would listen we know our own bodies.thanks for all your comments made me feel better.
Hey Kelly you are deffinatly right DRs need to listen and stop making people feel they are making it up or making it worst my DR told the pain im having now is not related to the cyst even tho it feels exactly the same as it did before i had it removed. told me the pain wasprobly never from that?? they need to start doing their jobs and listen to what people say. finaly went to another DR and she has referred me back to specialist fingers crossed for your op youl be fine:)
i had a dermoid cyst removed back when i was 19 and 2 months after i got pregnant and had a healthy baby boy...a few years later it grew back and i had it ever since and got pregnant again at 34 so keep your head up ladies hopefully for yous who have these cysts and want to get pregnant will theres hope that you can
At the age of 16, I was diagnoised with a dermoid cyst of the right ovary and had it removed along with the ovary. At the age of 18, I became pregnant with only one ovary and had a healthy baby boy. I then had another healthy baby at the age of 22 and another baby at the age of 30. All 3 healthy baby boys with one ovary. There is hope for those of you who think there is not, I hope this helps keep your mind at ease.
my left ovary was removed 17 yrs ago bcoz of dermoid cyst and now im already 38 yrs old, just three weeks had passes, i undergo surgery bcoz of dermoid again on my right ovary... i have not conceived... Now having my menstruation four weeks after surgery... When it is safe to have sex and how to prevent dermoid from coming back??? i want to have a baby...
i also have a dermoid cyst on my right ovary i have been having severe pain and the docs cant figure out why that is they say that im not supposed to have pain with it but it gets to the point where the pain is so bad i will lay in bed in fetal position for at least an hour. i dont know what to do. and i have not been able to get pregnant i was just curious if those symptoms would have anything to do with that thing.
I have been diagnosed with dermoid ovarian cyst size upto 7cms and I am six weeks pregnant. I have on and off pain on my right side of uterus. I need some advise as I don't want to terminate my pregnancy.
i am currently 11 weeks preg and had a scan at 6 week due to pain in my left side scan showed a dermoid cyst at 3cm had another scan at 10 week and it had grown to 5cm due to go see a specialist because i had an 18cm dermoid on my right ovary bk in 2008 wich resulted in surgery to remove cyst and ovary i am 24 yrs old and have two children and preg with no 3 everything seems fine with little bean but the pain from ovarian cysts can be so bad

I am about a month post op.. I had BOTH my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed which is called a salpingo bilateral oophorectomy.. from 1 cysts which was 22CM and another that was 14CM they were huge and rapidly growing. I have had pelvic exams of the ton and my stomach started to protrude but the drs just thought i was overweight. Well, i have been having ALOT of pain, so bad that i couldn't even move for days, i had bladder urgency, and my stomach kept getting bigger. WELL with an ultrasound and MRI a year after being told it's nothing and finding a new dr, i found it out it one was a hemorrhagic dermoid cyst. The other was the same.
From taking such a long time to find out this, my ovaries were completely scarred and stretched out.. They had to completely remove both of them. I am only 22 years old and was planning on a family, so it was a big deal for me. Wisely choose your drs and your surgeons. I might have had a choice other than an open abdominal surgery which is a cut from breast bone to pelvic area, but it's a good thing it's fixed. I had to spend 4 days in the hospital, i had tubes inside of my stomach delivering a pain medicine directly to the wounds. I did not like this so if you have a choice i would skip it.. i had to take it out by myself when i got home and it was pretty gross, and carrying it around over your shoulder makes showering and everyday activities hard especially when your trying to get dressed. I absolutely hated my drs but i had no choice because being in the army that was the only person on my healthcare plan. I should have went with my instincts and just paid for it somewhere else.. so if you second guess, then do what your heart tells you.
It hurt bad to get up and move around for 2 weeks. I had to have help sitting up and walking around with a catheter.. that was pretty interesting. I do recommend moving around as much as you can as soon as your able to because it makes you feel better. As for pain, they can hook you up to a morphine machine which you push a button and instantly feel better (if you have the same procedure as mine) The staples were left in for a week, and it did not hurt when they were taken out, except the few that were sticking but it was just like a pinch. You're able to get up after about the 3rd week, and walk around alot.. and just overall feel better. Do not jump or run either because yea, i have done that and it was not a good idea at all. One problem though, is that i'm still bleeding like having a period but it's like spotting.. so i'm not sure what thats all about so im going in the drs in a few days.
any questions if you're going through a similar surgery such as mine and want support for your oophorectomy shoot me an email at

Just confussed and frustrated.
i had also a benign dermoid cyst it was found last feb 2012. my dermoid cyst is 4cm at left ovary, right ovary is dominant. Dr told me that i need to go back for uts after 6 months to check if it will grw. and if it will became bigger i ned to undergo surgery. im just curious if there is any medicine that can deminish the cyst without surgery?
im just taking now a medicine that they said it can remove the cyst. i hope it will gone.

i just found out that i had a dermoid cyst..i felt so scared..the doctor said that its 2 cm but they need to ultrasound me again after 6 months to see if it is growing...im just 22 years old and im scared to see what would happen next..im not financially stable so i dont know what would i do if it eventually grow and need operation
After my fist child I too was told that I have a dermiod. Mine was the size of a baseball and cause me uncontrolabe pain. I had to have surgery Asap. They ended up taking most of my right ovary it does not prod. any eggs. I was afraid of not being able to have any more children because I also have polycystic ovaries. 2 years after I had a beautiful baby girl. It had hair and teeth yuck. DOnt give up hope babies will come. :)
I was diagnosed last month with a 4.7cm dermoid on my right ovary. This came after about 6mths of feeling nauseous, tired, full all the time and pain. I went to the doctors heaps of times and was given a few different medications for reflux etc, but none worked. Now I know what it is I have to wait up to 1yr to have my operation. Has anyone else been taken as a non urgent patient for this procedure. I have been told I will need my right ovary removed, and I also have a portion of my bowel attached by adhesions to the cyst because I have endometriosis as well. I've had about 9 operations for the endometriosis. Since I am over 40, have a previous history of endometriosis, I am worried that I could be in that small percentage of people who's dermoids contain cancer. Do you think waiting 1 year is too much? I appreciate any comments on this.
i was diagnosed with a dermoid cyst the size of a soft ball in my right ovary when i was six weeks pregnant.am now 7month and my doc says i can have my daughter then remove it after due to excess bleeding.am 27 and a mother of two boys.atimes when the baby moves to the right am in pain but all will be well..just remain positive ladies.
When i was 12 i was diagnosed with a football size (16 cm) dermoid cyst and had to have emergency surgery to remove it after it had completely obliterated my left ovary. They cut me right down the center of my abdomen and now i have a huge scar. In 2006 i was diagnosed with another large dermoid 13 cm on my left ovary and had surgery to remove that one as well, down the same old scar. The doc was able to save a good portion of my right ovary. Now it is 2012 and i went to the doctor for my 6 month ultrasound, as i go twice a year for check ups, today and they have found yet another cyst 4 cm (so they caught it early). I have an appointment in 2 weeks to see if i will need surgery. I am worried about my fertility as i am only 27 and have not been in the proper relationship to consider children yet. i definitely know i want them, but i guess i wonder why this keeps happening? Hopefully they can just remove it laparoscopically this time since it is smaller and save all of my ovary so that i can still have my little ones in the future. it just hurts to feel like your fertility is constantly on a timeline at such a young age. i am even considering freezing my eggs at this point. Best of luck to the rest of you and i hope everything works out great for myself as well. take care all.
I have just been told that I have an 8cm dermoid cyst on one ovary and a 4cm one on the other. I am worried that this will damage my ovaries and my chances of getting pregnant. I am 26 and don't have any children. The dr wants to remove them next month. Did anyone else have both removed - I was told the chance of damage to the ovary was 1/1000?
